National Geographic News: The Plight of the Gila Monster

This project was for National Geographic Society’s news division. Having produced for them for several years, we made a pitch to the senior producers to do a project on one of the most unique reptiles in the world and the challenges it faces with the changing landscape and climate in Southern Arizona.

This project was filmed over several weekends, with many and tremendous thanks going to biologist Don Swann and the staff at the Saguaro National Park West in Tucson, Arizona, who were tremendously helpful on this project.

I am a journalist, a photographer, a teacher, a mentor and a biologist. I am Asian, I am Filipino, Chinese, Spanish, American. I am me. What makes up who I am is my family, my beliefs, my experiences, my friends. The books I've read, the movies I've seen, the music I listen to are all a part of how I have become who I am. The places I've visited, the places I have yet to visit are part of who I am. I am an individual face in a massive ocean of different faces, different races, but one and the same human race.
